Fundraising
How do I create a fundraising page?
Once you have registered you can setup your Plunge fundraising page. Set your fundraising goal, customize the text, and upload an image. All it takes is a few sentences for a supporter to understand why this cause is important to you and motivate them to donate.
Did you know… your friends, family, and other supporters are more likely to donate to you if they see a donation has already been made by you to your own campaign.
Can I join or create a team that will fundraise and Plunge together?
Yes! During the registration process you will have the ability to create or join an exisiting team. This will allow your team's fundraising efforts to be combined, while still allowing each of you to have your own personal fundraising page.
Do you have any tips on how best to fundraise?
Email your family, friends, neighbours, co-workers, friends of friends, and distant relatives Explain your connection to ovarian cancer, why it’s important to you, and how it has touched your life. Let them know that the event will raise funds for drug and treatment development for ovarian cancer through the world-renowned UBC/VGH research facilities in Vancouver. Ask them to support you by donating and include the link to your fundraising page.
The most important thing… keep it personal. When reaching out to your contacts be yourself and keep your emails personal. Tell them why participating in the Plunge for the Cure is important to you.
The Cause
What is the point of the Plunge for the Cure?
Why ovarian cancer?
- Prostate cancer is unique to men and has a 98% survival rate in 5 years. By comparison ovarian cancer, which is unique to women, has a 30% survival rate in 5 years. Ten years ago, ovarian cancer had a five-year survival rate of 0.
- An estimated 3,100 Canadian women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2020, and an estimated 1950 died from the disease. In BC, that was 440 diagnosis and 280 deaths.
What happens to the money you raise?
Thanks to the funds raised by the Plunge for the Cure the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) has established a “Plunge for the Cure Impact Grant Fund” which supports research activities and initiatives primarily focused on, and directly related to, ovarian cancer research done by the world-class research team at the renowned VGH/UBC research facilities.
General
What is the Plunge for the Cure Foundation?
The Plunge for the Cure Foundation is a registered Canadian charity that was established to raise funds for drug and treatment development targeting ovarian cancer.
Plunge for the Cure was started by a group of Vancouver residents, business owners, and philanthropists who all have one thing in common: a desire to crush ovarian cancer. Supporters fundraise annually, as individuals or as a team, and then take part in celebrating the arrival of summer by plunging into the water on the last Sunday in May to help us crush ovarian cancer. The event will raise funds for drug and treatment development for ovarian cancer through the world-renowned UBC/VGH research facilities in Vancouver.
